In other news, Boys Noize's new album Power was released today, and to mark it he played a 30 minute DJ set at Rough Trade in London. If you missed it, get on the Eurostar and go see him at I Love Techno next month.
In his latest collaboration Steve Aoki has teamed up with Will.I.Am, here going under the name of '[[[Zuper Blahq]]]'. This side project of the Black Eyed Peas star is the latest addition to Dim Mak Records, so hopefully we will be seeing some more more releases from him soon.
I have been listening to this song for ages now and I still love it - another blinding remix courtesy of the Don. I have added the video for Count and Sinden's Mega, from their forthcoming debut album, to the videos section. Check it out if you like flashing lights and bright colours.
I realise posting has been a bit thin (non-existant) for the past couple of months! Fortunately the latest post at iRobotic, dissing Electrometro, made me bring the blog out of hibernation. DatA is yet another DJ hailing from the electro capital of Paris. His debut album Skywriter came out in May, and he seems to be touring pretty much everywhere except the UK at the moment, so check him out if you get the chance!
Shoes is one of the tracks on Tiga's album Ciao, which came out at the end of April, but doesn't seem to be getting much love from the electro community (he probably doesn't care though, as he loves himself so much - see picture). It might be down to his pretty minimalist style which a lot of the time sounds like he is just playing about to see what all the functions on his Korg (or whatever) do. If nothing else, this is definitely a good walking song - and the Mr. Oizo remix is, as usual, brilliant. Yeah, the lyrics are weird, bordering on cringey, but if you think that's strange you should watch the video.
Click the television screen on the top left to go to our new videos page, where you can watch this surrealist concoction and lots of other electro themed videos.
The record label Kitsuné Maison announced this month that they would be releasing their seventh compilation album, which they are dubbing 'the lucky one', on 1st June 2009.
For those of you unfamiliar with Kitsuné, the fashion and music label is based in Paris and has been picking up electro artists and promoting them to fame since 2002. Over the years their compilation albums have developed a massive following, and have featured artists such as Boys Noize, Hot Chip, Klaxons, Metronomy, Cut Copy, Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco, and Crystal Castles.
They also announced the tracklist for the upcoming album, and not only that but offered a free track (see below):
1. Two Door Cinema Club – Something Good Can Work 2. We Have Band – Time After Time 3. Phoenix – Lisztomania (Classixx Version) 4. Crystal Fighters – Xtatic Truth 5. The Golden Filter – Favourite Things 6. La Roux – In For The Kill (Lifelike Remix) 7. Beni – Fringe Element (Short Like Me Edit) 8. AutoKratz – Always More (Yuksek Remix) 9. 80 Kidz – Miss Mars 10. James Yuill – This Sweet Love (Prins Thomas Sneaky Edit) 11. Men – Make It Reverse 12. Chew Lips – Solo 13. Chateau Marmont – Beagle 14. Heartsrevolution – Untitled 15. Delphic – Counterpoint (Delphic’ En Route Mix) 16. Encore 17. Maybb – Touring In Ny (Short Tour Edit) 18. Renaissance Man – Rythym 19. Tanlines – Bejan
Yuksek's remixes always brilliant, and this one is no exception. This track is awesome, hopefully reflecting the standard of the rest of the album! In the words of Kitsuné themselves, "the break is sublime: 'take my hand, you can break my heart' sung through a vocoder".
I actually love these Australian boys, can't believe they aren't even signed yet! First heard of them over at iRobotic, who posted one of their tracks here a while ago. I already posted one of their remixes on this page, here are a couple more. The original Disco Sirens is definitely worth a listen, and has spawned a hell of a lot of remixes, but I think Calling in Sick have blown most, if not all, of the others out the water with this one. Killer!
The Mr. Oizo remix is so catchy, I haven't been able to get it out my head for the past week.
Unfortunately for those of us who don't live down under, Calling in Sick only seem to play around their home town of Sydney for the moment. Hopefully they will be picked up soon and start touring worldwide, I can imagine their live shows being siiiick... see what I did there.
I was a bit disappointed with MSTRKRFT's new album Fist of God. I think they might have got a bit carried playing with their guitars, and the rap vocals on almost every track kind of ruined it for me. Vuvuvu, a total gem, is the only blog-worthy one, and that was a re-release from their Bounce E.P. anyway.
